Eileen Gu wishes fans happy Lunar New Year after two golds at Freestyle Skiing World Cup ahead of X Games

Eileen Gu heads into this weekend’s X Games in perfect form after winning two half-pipe gold medals on her return to action at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup event in Calgary.

China’s double Olympic champion, who also won a silver medal in slopestyle at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, topped the podium for a second time last Saturday having also won gold on Thursday.

The 19-year-old Stanford University student, who was born in California, is already hard at work in Aspen, Colorado, where she is favoured to win gold in her three events with the action getting under way in the big air on Saturday.

She posted a video on Instagram of her final lap after nine hours of training on Wednesday – before hitting the books to study.

Gu was the only skier to clear 90 points at the World Cup last weekend, maxing out her second run with 93.50 at the Calgary Snow Rodeo at WinSport Canada Olympic Park. Canada’s Racahel Karker finished second with 85.50, while China’s Zhang Kexin was third with 81.75.

“Two for two on World Cups this week in Calgary,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
