Chinese teen diving sensation Quan Hongchan has been taken into the hearts of social media users with many referring to the 14-year-old as “the nation’s little sister”.
Now those same Netizens are pondering the potential of Quan’s own little sister, 12-year-old Quan Hongtao, and her younger brother, 10-year-old Quan Jinpeng.
Both of the double Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medallist’s younger siblings are enrolled in the same Zhanjiang Sports School that Quan has trained at from seven years old.
The school is known as “the cradle of diving champions”, having produced Tokyo 2020 star Quan as well as Lao Lishi and the 2008 Beijing Olympics men’s 3-metre springboard champion He Chong.


Chinese media reported that Quan Hongtao started training aged nine while Quan Jinpeng began diving aged seven.
Coach Chen Minghua invited the younger sister to try out after she went to pick up Quan Hongchan from training with their mother. The sisters have since stayed at the school, sharing the same dormitory, it was reported.

Hopes are high for the young pair. Quan Hongtao is reported to be 10cm taller than her older sister while Chen also spoke on Quan Jinpeng’s potential in an interview with domestic media.
Chinese social media users have high hopes that the sisters could compete together for China at the Paris Olympics in three years time.
“My sister [Quan Hongchan] can join hands with her sister in a two-person competition. Double diving gold medal,” wrote one Weibo user.


Quan Hongchan will represent Guangdong province in the China National Games next month.
