Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey completes sweep of 100m freestyle races on Mare Nostrum Swim Tour, Ian Ho wins 50m sprint
- Victory meant the 26-year-old picked up seven golds and one silver at the Mediterranean swim meet
- Racing alongside Haughey was compatriot Camille Cheng, who is still chasing Olympic qualification
The Mare Nostrum Swim Tour came to a close in Monaco on Sunday, with Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey completing a clean sweep of the 100-metre freestyle across all three legs, while Ian Ho Yentou won the sprint contest.
In the 100-metres freestyle, Haughey raced alongside compatriot Camille Cheng Lily-mei, who is still chasing Olympic qualification.
Haughey won the race in 52.72 seconds, 1.61 seconds ahead of France’s Marie Wattel in second. Japan’s Nagisa Ikemoto was third in 54.63.
Cheng finished in seventh in 55.67 seconds, almost two seconds slower than the Olympic qualifying time.
The victory meant that 26-year-old Haughey picked up seven golds and one silver at the Mediterranean swim meet, which stopped in France, Barcelona and Monaco between May 25 and June 2.
