Cricket, lacrosse and breakdancing make their case for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

- Cricket bosses are proposing T20 be played at the Olympics, and the format is being played at the Commonwealth Games for the first time
Cricket, lacrosse and breakdancing are among nine sports that have been invited by organisers of the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 to present their case for inclusion in the Games.
The other five – baseball/softball, motorsport, kick-boxing, squash and flag football – were also told they could submit ROIs for the sport programme review.
Officials will hear submissions later this month from the governing bodies of the nine sports, with a decision expected ahead of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Mumbai in the middle of next year.
There are 28 sporting events which have already been announced for LA 2028, with aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoe, cycling, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, skateboarding, football, sport climbing, surfing, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling all confirmed to compete.
The IOC has also said there is a “pathway” for boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon to join them.
Cricket bosses are proposing that T20 be played at the Olympics, and the format is being played at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, with women contesting it for the first time.
The International Cricket Council has made no secret of its desire to return to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, the same year motorsport was included.
