Founded in 2011, Goodnotes has grown into a leading platform for productivity, note-taking, and creativity, serving over 24 million monthly users. Known for pioneering features like pioneering features like spellcheck and word complete in users’ own handwriting and earning Apple’s iPad App of the Year in 2022, Goodnotes continues to push boundaries in digital handwriting and organization. The app’s latest venture? Transforming note-taking with generative AI.

Expanding Productivity with AI

Goodnotes has always aimed to help users work smarter. Its latest AI-powered tool, Ask Goodnotes, takes this mission to the next level. Leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS), Ask Goodnotes synthesises  information from handwritten notes, typed text, and PDFs to answer questions, create summaries, highlight key insights, and even generate custom quizzes. Designed to amplify the value of note-taking, this AI assistant simplifies workflows and enhances productivity— bringing the power of cutting-edge AI to the intuitive flexibility of handwriting.

In addition to Ask Goodnotes, the October 2024 launch introduced two enhanced AI-powered features:

  • AI-powered handwriting editing: Thanks to the cutting-edge Goodnotes Smart Ink technology, you can now edit and format their handwriting just as easily as typed text. For example, you can now cut and paste content from one paragraph to another, and your handwriting will magically reflow.
  • Math Assist: Simply handwrite an math equation in Goodnotes, and Math Assist will provide the solution or help you identify the next step.
Goodnotes adopted Amazon Bedrock to accelerate the development and launch of AI features like Ask Goodnotes. This service enables the integration of advanced language models like Anthropic Claude, providing flexibility and scalability. By utilizing Bedrock’s capabilities, Goodnotes reduced infrastructure burdens, allowing its team to focus on creating better user experiences.
“Working with AWS enables us to provide Goodnotes users with the best LLM-powered experience by allowing rapid testing of various models during development and maintaining the flexibility to experiment with and implement cutting-edge models as they emerge.”
