Celebrating 80th Anniversary with Asian universities basketball tournament

[Sponsored article] In celebration of PolyU's 80th Anniversary, the University will stage the "PolyU・King's Flair Group Asian Universities Invitational Basketball Tournament" on 13-17 June, fostering connection among Asian universities, as well as promoting basketball and sportsmanship. Eight elite basketball teams from Asian universities will participate in the tournament, including the men's teams from PolyU, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kyoto University, Nanyang Technological University, South China University of Technology, Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and University of Macau.

PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong thanked all parties for their efforts in staging the Tournament at the launching ceremony held on 25 May. "PolyU has always been full of vitality and energy on all various fronts, despite a proud history of 80 years. This exciting Tournament is therefore a perfect event for celebrating our 80thAnniversary.  Through this Tournament, we also hope to provide opportunities for students from different places to know each other and to learn more about different cultures."   

The Tournament adopts single round robin system in the preliminary round, with the teams divided into two groups. The two best team from each group will enter the final to compete for the championship and scholarships. Individual awards for Points Leader, 3-Points Leader, Assists Leader, Steals Leader, Rebounds Leader and Most Valuable Player will also be presented.

The preliminary round of matches, from 13 to 15 June, will be staged at the PolyU campus; while the final match on 17 June will be held at MacPherson Stadium in Mongkok. Members of the public are all welcome.
