The Bear

The Bear needs no introduction.

Created by award-winning director and producer Christopher Storer, the critically acclaimed FX production won the Emmy for Best Comedy Series earlier this year with its rookie season. Series lead Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, picked up the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series; to learn the ropes of a working kitchen, White spent time cooking at a Michelin-starred restaurant to (quite literally) sharpen his knives.

Aside from White, The Bear features a stellar cast: Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach both won Emmys for their supporting roles. Behind the scenes, The Bear’s directing and writing teams also picked up honours.

This new season brings more drama as Carmy pushes himself harder than ever, and demands excellence from his crew – more “non-negotiables” naturally, as they turn the restaurant into a fine-dining establishment and reach for Michelin stardom. Catch all episodes of the chair-gripping new season on Thursday, June 27 on Disney+.

Shōgun

FX’s Shōgun – Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada takes on the role of Lord Yoshii Toranaga, in this historical epic set in feudal Japan.
Adapted from James Clavell’s best-selling novel, FX’s Shōgun is an epic historical saga set in feudal Japan that had been five years in the making. When it premiered earlier this year on Disney+, the 10-episode series became an immediate sensation, logging a record-breaking 9 million views internationally.
Created for television by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the on-screen adaptation was widely recognised by industry mavens, including the Post’s own reviewers. “Production and costume designs are impeccable throughout,” lauded Hong Kong-based film critic James Marsh, who also applauded “the incredible ensemble cast” featuring Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, New Zealand-born actress Anna Sawai as Toda Mariko, British actor Cosmo Jarvis as John Blackthorne, as well as Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido and Takehiro Hira. The series currently holds a 99 per cent% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Shōgun could prove to be the gold standard of the adaptation of the novel, added long-term staff writer Stephen McCarty. He praised the drama’s lush cinematography, visceral battle scenes, incendiary politics, and more, citing “obvious pre-production thoroughness.” It was announced in May that two more seasons of the show are in the works.

Star Wars: The Acolyte

Star Wars: The Acolyte – Legendary South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae plays a Jedi master, who uncovers dark secrets as he comes face-to-face with a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg).
