Henderson Land is encouraging community engagement through initiatives that empower talents from diverse backgrounds, centred on its values of putting people first, devotion to the future of the community, and nurturing the next generation of talent.
The Realising Your Imagination campaign ran hand-in-hand with a multimedia art competition of the same name that took place between December last year and February, calling for creative entries that looked at how the future of city living can be improved – with reference to Henderson Land’s contribution to Hong Kong and the company’s brand values over the years.
The judging panel, comprising architects, city planners and art and multimedia professionals, examined hundreds of submissions, with topics including urban transformation, ways of adopting greener living and how to best use technology in our daily lives.
The judges shortlisted 17 diverse works in two categories: one for students and the other an open call, drawing artists coming from all walks of life – from university students and travellers to digital artists and aspiring architects. The winners were awarded at a prize presentation ceremony on May 31.
Tales of imagination
The winner of the Student category was A Letter from the Future by students Louis Dong, Oscar Leung and Luna Chui. It is a short film about a time capsule, with an imagined letter written by the protagonists reflecting on how urban planning can build a better future for Hong Kong.

“I was born and raised in Hong Kong so I have many memories of growing up here, and it is this place that has nurtured me,” says Dong, an associate degree student in film, television and digital media studies at Hong Kong Baptist University.
“A good film can bring resonance and even reflection, so I hope that in the future more people will see them so that they can better understand society.”
Some shortlisted works pushed creative boundaries, that being the case with Desirous of the Unknown, an uplifting short film by Cheung Yan-kiu that won third place. It is a sci-fi tale of how a regenerative substance from sea anemones offers mankind a source of unlimited energy, inspiring people to step out of their comfort zones and navigate the unknown.
Imagining Hong Kong in a more practical sense, Anvar Mukhamedjanov created “Lotus City for 25,000 People”, a fictional urban planning project that envisions green, sustainable and self-sufficient living. Inspired by the lotus flower, symbolising strength, resilience and rebirth, the project received an Outstanding Award.

In the Open category, eight works were shortlisted, with digital artist Gerry Li’s “Generated Memories” taking the top spot. Li conducted an interactive “memory exploration experiment” inspired by scenes from Henderson Land’s first urban revitalisation project Urban Art in SoHo ArtLane – exploring the theme of coexistence between man and nature.
“Local spaces are part of people’s collective memories, and those places are changing and diminishing, just like memories are constantly reshaped over time,” says Li. “In this project, I transform people’s memories of ArtLane into an immersive experience where people can explore their relationships with time and space.”
Winning the Judges Award, My Family, My City by Daniel Sierralta Vargas is a poetic short film combining acrobatic dance and cinematic metaphors, reflecting on how the city’s success mirrors that of its people.

Interactive experience
The public will be able to view these 17 shortlisted pieces in an interactive exhibition until June 14 at H Queen’s, Central. Adding emphasis to Henderson Land’s new campaign, the exhibition aims to connect the community and ignite inspiration by immersing audiences within the works, using interactive installations and AR technologies for a state-of-the-art experience.
The exhibition space will be organised into four zones, starting with a digital installation reflecting Henderson Land’s eternal wheel emblem, while other spaces will spotlight shortlisted works that have leveraged specific digital technologies. Six will be given an augmented reality treatment for a greater multi-dimensional experience.

Viewers will also be able to step into immersive installations and become a part of the works of art. For a more hands-on experience, visitors can also head to Zone 3’s Web3 Creative Space and upload their own photos of the works to create an NFT souvenir that will be stored in their personal Henderson Land NFT wallet.
Similarly, visitors can play Henderson Land’s augmented reality game to imagine their own future and share their scenarios on the developer’s dedicated social media platforms, with a chance to win a souvenir.
In making these technologies accessible to the public, Henderson Land hopes to fuel creativity in the city in future-ready ways while creating new sources of inspiration.
