Since the internet boom at the turn of the millennium, companies and individuals have depended extensively on the internet for virtually all their business and social needs. Never before has the world been so interconnected at such a global scale.

The downside of this interconnectivity is the increased exposure to fraud and other forms of malicious use of information technology (IT). To protect themselves from these threats, prudent users must be armed with the relevant tools that will enable them to reap the benefits of the information superhighway.

"M.Tech leads in this niche of cybersecurity and network performance optimisation with our best-of-breed solutions," says Stanley Foo, CEO of Multi-Chem, the parent company of M.Tech and a listed company of the main board of the Singapore Exchange. "We have invested heavily in our technical capability to ensure that the IT network systems of our end-users are not compromised."

The beginning

Foo founded Multi-Chem in 1989 to distribute precision drills and routers, and materials for fabrication of printed circuit boards. Later on, it began to offer drilling services in Singapore.

"A friend of mine called me one day asking if I had an extra space in my factory for an old drilling machine," Foo says. "The guy was upgrading, and he also asked me if I wanted to subcontract some of the drilling work for him."
