New look: Edgier designs are changing the face of Ho Chi Minh City
River City, Khai Tower and Satra-Tax Plaza lead the way in unconventional architecture shaking up the established order in Vietnam’s largest city
Unconventional architectural designs will ensure that several soon-to-be completed buildings in Ho Chi Minh City are instantly recognisable.
River City is a large-scale, undulating elliptical-shaped structure designed to alternate from 37 to 12 storeys and vice versa. The project has 4,800 residential units and is located between the Phu My area and District Two’s Thu Thiem neighbourhood.
The complex will offer residents exclusive amenities and recreational facilities, including elevated walkways flanked by gardens, a two-level swimming pool with a waterfall, an open square with water and light features, and an artificial island. All these will be within the interior courtyard. The developers are An Gia Investment and Phat Dat Real Estate Development Joint Stock Co.
Khai Tower, which will be the head office of Khaisilk Investment Joint Stock Co, is in District Seven’s Phu My Hung. The 20-storey building’s design was inspired by silk, the signature product of the company. The tower features a ribbon-like accent around its entire façade.
The 40-storey Satra-Tax Plaza will incorporate elements of the 92-year-old Tax Centre. The parts integrated into Satra-Tax Plaza include the first three stories of the Tax Centre’s exterior as well as large parts of its main lobby, including the original balustrades, bronze handrails and its signature staircase, in addition to the Moroccan mosaic decorating the floor. Satra-Tax Plaza will feature offices, hotel, shopping mall, and a direct connection to the Ben Thanh-Suoi
Tien Metro Line.
