5 ski resorts getting sustainable makeovers this winter holiday, from Niseko to Les Arcs
From Shanghai’s vast indoor slopes to the planet’s ever more eco-savvy resorts, here’s our round-up of some the world’s most exciting skiing destinations
Few holiday activities are more under threat from climate breakdown than skiing and other winter sports.

1. Niseko, Japan
Replacing the Center 4 lift, the Ace Gondola will take skiers to the top of Ace Hill and feature Wi-fi in all 54 of its 10-person cabins, along with heated seats and ski racks. Two cabins will have see-through floors. The new gondola will be 50 per cent faster and carry more skiers than the previous four-person chair, so should also help alleviate lift queues.
