1. Harris lays out her plan for US ‘opportunity economy’ in first policy speech

US Vice-President Kamala Harris called for expanded US employment, increased opportunities for Americans and more secure supply chains in mid-August in her first major policy speech since replacing President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

2. Trump’s fans love his bobbleheads. His planned China tariffs could change that

Since Donald Trump hit the political scene in 2015, bobbleheads bearing his likeness have “consistently outsold” every other politician’s, said Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. But many of these items are manufactured in China – meaning that Trump’s fans would stand to lose if his tariff threats of 60 per cent or more on all goods from the country were put into action.

3. US charges ex-democracy advocate with being illegal agent for Beijing

A naturalised US citizen from China was arrested on charges of acting as an unregistered agent for Beijing and for lying to the FBI after he allegedly ran a pro-democracy civic group while providing intelligence on dissidents to the Ministry of State Security (MSS). Arraigned in federal court in New York on August 21, Yuanjun Tang, 67, faces up to 20 years in prison.
