Donald Trump, the former US president and presumptive Republican presidential candidate this November, was found guilty on all 34 counts in a closely watched New York state election-interference trial involving falsified business records and hush money paid to an adult-film star.

Sentencing, ranging from probation to four years in prison, will take place on July 11, said New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan, after the verdict was read in a Manhattan court.

This would come four days before the start of the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be nominated. Nothing in the US Constitution prevents a convicted felon from running for the presidency.

Trump can and is likely to appeal. And, as a first-time felon with no criminal record, he is unlikely to get any jail time.
