Welcome to the Post’s live coverage of the 2024 UK general election. Keir Starmer has been appointed Britain’s next prime minister after leading the Labour Party to a landslide victory.
Starmer pledged “change begins now” in his victory speech early Friday as outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat, ending 14 years of Conservatives in power.
Labour won at least 412 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons, a massive majority. The Conservatives were reduced to 121 seats, losing more than 200 - their worst ever electoral performance. The Liberal Democrats won 71 - their best ever performance.
