Legendary war journalist and author Clare Hollingworth, who broke the news of the outbreak of the second world war, died last night at her home in Central. She was 105.
The British-born reporter with the title “doyenne of war correspondents” was found to have stopped breathing at 7.40pm by a domestic helper at her flat on Glenealy, Central.
Her great nephew Patrick Garrett was then alerted.
She was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, but was found to be dead on arrival, according to her close friend Cathy Hilborn Feng.
The family released a short statement on the Facebook page “Celebrate Clare Hollingworth”.
“We are sad to announce that after an illustrious career spanning a century of news, celebrated war correspondent Clare Hollingworth died this evening in Hong Kong,” the statement read.
