Renowned Taiwan singer and actress Angela Zhang dedicated her iconic song “Invisible Wings” to a doctor who was stabbed and killed the day before her concert in the city where he worked.
Li Sheng, a cardiologist from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, was stabbed to death by a stranger on July 19.
The killer, undesrtood to be a man who lived alone, jumped from the roof of the hospital after the attack and is still undergoing treatment for his injuries, according to Beijing Youth Daily.
On July 20, Zhang held a concert in the city where Li worked.
Before singing her most famous song she dedicated to “the angel in white who left us”.

Released on her 2006 album, Pandora, the song “Invisible Wings” became a hit and an evergreen classic for its graceful melody and lyrics intended to encourage listeners through adversity.
“I have a pair of invisible wings, letting me fly past despair, fly as far as there is wind,” the lyrics say.
An audience member said Zhang’s words and the song moved many to tears.
Zhang, 42, made her debut as a television drama actress in 2002.
She focused on her singing career after her songs “Aurora”, “The Lost Happiness” and “Invisible Wings” became hits in the Mandarin-speaking world.
Zhang enjoys huge fame in mainland China. Her second and third albums, Aurora (2004) and Pandora (2006), both sold more than a million copies there.
She is said to have a voice “kissed by an angel”.
Li was stabbed during his lunch hour while voluntarily working overtime to help patients, something he frequently did.
Colleagues and students paid tribute to him on social media.
They said Li was the best cardiologist at the hospital, and was so dedicated to treating patients that he did not focus on the academic research required for promotion.
Li suffered multiple fatal injuries to his head, carotid artery, pancreas and abdominal aorta, his student and friend for 16 years, Chen Yu, told the mainland media outlet Modern Express.
Many of his patients sent flowers to the hospital in the wake of his death.

In one bouquet, a message read: “Rest in peace doctor Li Sheng. Remember to eat your lunch on time in heaven.”
In the past decade, nearly 300 attacks on medical staff were reported in the media, according to a 2020 Renmin University research.
Following Li’s death, China’s National Health Commission denounced violence against medical workers. There have been calls for heavier legal punishments for attackers.
Beijing eye doctor Tao Yong, whose promising surgical career ended after he was stabbed in the head and arm by a patient in 2020, also called for better security at hospitals.
“As a ‘lucky one’ who survived, I know that providing doctors with a secure working environment would help them save more lives,” Tao said.
