A Malaysian mother sparked public outrage on social media after confessing to hitting her child as a way to cope with her emotional struggles stemming from long-term workplace bullying.

In a Facebook post, the mother, identified as Aila, revealed that after enduring a year of slander and torment from colleagues, she directed her frustrations towards her eight-year-old child at home.

“I’ve been facing this problem for almost a year. I’ve been severely bullied, both mentally and physically. If I receive praise or rewards from my boss, one of my colleagues gets jealous, even though the plaudits are the results of my own hard work,” she wrote in the post.

“I hit my eight-year-old child as if I was retaliating against the colleague who bullied me. I was cruel to my child, but the bullying has driven me to lose my sanity,” the mother confessed.

She described how the colleague’s insults led to social isolation, pushing her into depression and leaving her mentally and physically exhausted.
