Super Typhoon Yagi: 38 flights cancelled in Hong Kong on Thursday as storm approaches
Airport Authority says all flights will be rescheduled, with transport to be arranged from airport for passengers
Thirty-eight flights were cancelled in Hong Kong on Thursday as the city prepared for the approaching Super Typhoon Yagi, with transport from the airport to be arranged for passengers.
The Airport Authority’s deputy director for airport operations, Chapman Fong Shui-man, said on Thursday the cancelled flights would all be rescheduled under a mechanism to be triggered on Friday.
“We expect that the weather will worsen towards the end of the day and the whole day tomorrow,” Fong said. “This is why we expect that the flight disruption will be more severe tomorrow, so we will start the flight rescheduling system to help airlines to reschedule their flights and resume their flights.”
He added the airport would put in place measures to ensure passengers and staff were taken care of during the typhoon.
The deputy director said the airport would extend the operating hours of its restaurants and automated people mover system, with staff deployed to provide help and basic supplies.
A temporary rest area will also be set up with chairs and phone chargers.
