Three separate crashes involving eight vehicles on a major Hong Kong highway disrupted traffic on airport-bound lanes for about two hours on Friday.

The accidents took place on the North Lantau Highway between 8.22am and 8.39am, according to police. They involved four cars, two taxis, a truck and a motorcycle.

The Transport Department said that as of 10.22am, part of the airport-bound lanes of the highway near Sham Shui Kok Substation that was closed due to the accidents had reopened.

“Traffic queues take time to disperse,” it said.

A police spokesman said five other traffic accidents involving 14 vehicles occurred on the Kowloon-bound lanes of North Lantau Highway between 8.28am and 9.39am.

Three drivers were injured in one accident when two cars, a taxi, a delivery van and a coach collided at around 8.34am.

Police said the injured men, aged from 30 to 52, were the drivers of the two cars and the taxi. They were transported to North Lantau Hospital for treatment.
