Hong Kong cable car Ngong Ping 360 forced to close as stormy weather hits city

One of Hong Kong’s most popular tourist attractions has been forced to close due to bad weather.

The Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride service on Lantau Island was suspended at 11.07am after lightning and heavy showers passed over the attraction.

The operator of the cable car ride said on its website: “Ngong Ping 360 announces that cable car boarding has been temporarily suspended due to lightning. Boarding will resume when the adverse weather conditions have subsided.”

The city has been drenched by wet weather since Thursday evening, which included an amber rainstorm warning issued at 9.50pm and in place for almost two hours.

The Hong Kong Observatory forecast showed periods of wet and stormy weather for the next nine days.
