Hong Kong residents braved the cold weather to run, skate and stroll along a new section of a boardwalk in North Point on Sunday, with many lauding the wide pathway under an elevated road and picturesque seaside views.

The 1.1km (1,203 yard) western section of the long-awaited East Coast Boardwalk underneath the elevated Island Eastern Corridor is part of a HK$6.5 billion (US$837.3 million) harbourfront enhancement programme.

The North Point section is considered a key component of the government’s efforts to develop a 13km pedestrian-friendly promenade connecting Kennedy Town in the west to Shau Kei Wan in the east.

The Post observed a steady stream of residents using the boardwalk on Sunday evening, despite a cold weather warning issued earlier in the day by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Residents were seen walking, running and cycling along the boardwalk, which features a shared pathway for bicycles and pedestrians.
