Worker, 61, dies after 3-metre fall at Hong Kong construction site
Emergency personnel certified the man dead at the scene in a case classified as an industrial accident
A 61-year-old worker was killed on Friday after being hit by a metal beam section and falling at least three metres (10 feet) at a Hong Kong construction site.
Police said they received a report at 1.14pm that the man had fallen from a height of about three to four metres at the site, located at the junction of Pat Tsz Wo Street and Tsung Tau Ha Road in Fo Tan in Sha Tin.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel, the force said.
The Labour Department said it was “highly concerned” about the work accident. The worker was dismantling an I-beam on a work platform and was hit by a suspended dismantled section and fell to the ground, it said.
“The Labour Department is saddened by the death of the worker and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family,” a spokesman said.
He added that the department would complete its investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident.
