Hong Kong’s twin panda cubs to meet public on February 16, John Lee says
Chief executive also says an event to name the bears will be held ‘to bring more warmth and joy’
Hong Kong’s twin panda cubs will make their first public appearance on February 16, the city’s leader has revealed, saying an event to name the bears will be held.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced on Tuesday that “Elder Sister” and “Younger Brother” would meet the public on the third Sunday in February at Ocean Park, where four other pandas also live. The debut will take place just a day after the cubs turn six months old.
“Starting on Sunday, February 16, the public will be able to meet the two giant panda cubs in Ocean Park,” Lee said before his weekly meeting with the Executive Council, the city’s key decision-making body.
“The half-birthday of the two adorable giant panda cubs born in Hong Kong will be on February 15. We will be holding a ceremony to unveil the giant panda twins.”
Lee also said a public event to name the two cubs was set to take place.
“I have called for a naming event. We hope everyone in society shares the happiness of the panda family. A naming event can bring more warmth and joy,” Lee said.
