The humidity at Shek Kong, one of the city’s northernmost districts, fell to 12 per cent at one point – the lowest since records began in 1996.

In Chek Lap Kok, the level also dropped to as low as 9 per cent. According to records that began in 1997, the previous lowest level in the area was recorded in December 2014, when the relative humidity reached 16 per cent.

Cold weather warnings have been in effect for more than two days, with the Hong Kong Observatory predicting a slight rise in temperatures over the next few days.

At 7.30am on Sunday, the forecaster recorded a temperature of 11 degrees at its headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui, while various other districts reported temperatures below 7 degrees. Tai Mo Shan had the coldest reading at just 2.7 degrees.

“It will be cold in the morning, very cold over inland areas, where the temperature difference between day and night will be rather large,” it said.
