Hong Kong driver arrested after car mounts pavement, killing 1, injuring 2
Man, 68, declared dead in hospital, while the other two sustained head and leg injuries
A Hong Kong driver has been arrested after his car mounted a pavement in Jordan and ploughed into three pedestrians, killing one and injuring the other two.
Police arrested the man, 42, on suspicion of dangerous driving after his black BMW car crashed near the building Dao Hing Lau on Jordan Road at around 10am on Monday.
CCTV footage from a nearby shop showed that several pedestrians were crossing the road when the car heading west on Jordan Road, charged through the pedestrian crossing on Shanghai Street and then climbed onto the pavement.
Footage from another angle showed the BMW knocking down three pedestrians, with one being flung to the ground and another being dragged under the vehicle.
The car then crossed three lanes before crashing into a road divider and coming to a halt.
A man, 68, was found unconscious at the scene and declared dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei at 11.07am.
The other two pedestrians – a Korean man, 25, and a Filipino woman, also 25 – suffered head and leg injuries, respectively. Both are Hong Kong identity card holders.
