Hillside fire in northern Hong Kong finally extinguished after 25 hours

Firefighters put out a hill fire in northern Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon after battling the flames for more than 25 hours.

The trail of flames near Tai Tong in Yuen Long stretched as far as 50 metres (164 feet) at 11.14am, but by 3.30pm was about five metres, according to the Fire Services Department.

The blaze broke out at 2.49pm the day before and previously measured at 200 metres.

The Government Flying Service has also deployed a helicopter to help with firefighting efforts in the area.

The blaze was extinguished at 4pm on Sunday, and no one was injured.

Authorities earlier said they suspected the blaze had been caused by wild grass catching fire.
