Bodies of woman, 47, and grandson, 1, found in suspected murder-suicide case
Security guard alerted emergency responders after discovering the bodies in Tai Ping Estate, Sheung Shui
The bodies of a 47-year-old woman and her one-year-old grandson have been found near a rubbish bin at a public housing estate in Hong Kong, in a suspected murder-suicide case.
A security guard at Tai Ping Estate in Sheung Shui called for an ambulance at about 5.40pm on Friday after discovering the woman lying on a bin off Ping Ching House.
The boy, who was later confirmed by police as the woman’s grandson, was found with her. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from Tai Po district crime squad are investigating the case, which was been classified as murder-suicide.
A police source said the woman, her 20-year-old son and the grandson lived together at the nearby Cheung Lung Wai Estate. The child’s mother, who was not married to the father, lived elsewhere.
The grandmother had earlier contacted a friend and expressed feelings of unhappiness, asking the friend to take care of the boy. She was also under financial pressure because of debts, the source said.
