Hong Kong police have launched an investigation into a suspected poisoning of two dogs belonging to a former beauty queen.
Miss Hong Kong 2020 winner Lisa-Marie Tse Ga-ye lamented the death of her two dogs on her social media page, saying she wrote the update with “the heaviest of heartbroken hearts”.
Tse said she had taken her three dogs for a walk on Sunday in She Shan village in Lam Tsuen, where a “very disgusting, horrible and unforgivable person” had left “meat feast laced with poison” on a path.
“By the time I got to the girls, they had started to drop and have seizures. Unfortunately Peachy didn’t make it to the vet, and Summer passed very soon after,” she said in a post on Monday.
“The vet told us the meat was laced with neurotoxins, meaning it hit their brain immediately and there was little to be done.”
Tse added that she believed the act was “well-planned” as the poison had been mixed with a whole roast chicken, sausages and other meats left on a plate.
In a reply to the Post, police said they received a report from a woman on Monday that two of her dogs had died after eating meat placed on the road.

Police said the case had been passed to the force’s animal crime team in Tai Po for follow-up, but no arrests had been made.
“After a preliminary investigation, the case has been classified as cruelty to animals,” the force said.
“Police have always placed great emphasis on any suspected cases of animal cruelty and have been actively preventing and investigating such crimes in collaboration with various organisations.”
The force said on Tuesday it had no updates on the case or statistics on dog poisoning incidents.
Animal concern groups urged pet owners to exercise caution and prevent their animals from ingesting unknown food.
Hong Kong Dog Rescue, where Peachy was adopted from, said it strongly condemned the poisoning.
“We urge the relevant departments to place greater emphasis on education and supervision, and we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and keep an eye out for any suspicious food left on the streets that may pose a danger to our pets and local strays,” the organisation said.
The Non-Profit Making Veterinary Services Society said there had been a series of dog poisonings in the past two months, citing a case in which two poodles died of suspected poisoning after a walk in Shui Mei Tsuen, Yuen Long.
Citing its veterinary consultant, the organisation said poisons that were commonly ingested by pets included rat poison, which could cause blood clotting problems, and organophosphorus compounds, which had “neurotoxic effects” affecting the function of organs.
“In order to prevent dog poisoning, owners should be alert when letting their dogs out, and always keep an eye on the road for any foreign objects,” it said, adding residents should ensure their pets were on a leash.
Lawmaker Gary Chan Hak-kan said that such tragedies had occurred in various places, including The Peak, Sheung Shui and Tai Po, adding it was very difficult to prevent them.
“What we can do is focus on the black spots, and police should strengthen their patrols and check for any suspicious individuals,” he said.
