Temperatures in Hong Kong to drop to 12 degrees Celsius this weekend, lowest this winter
Hong Kong Observatory says the cold weather may break the record for the lowest temperature so far this winter
Hong Kong will record its lowest temperature so far for this winter as the mercury is set to drop to 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) or below over the weekend.
The local forecaster said a northeast monsoon would reach the southern coast of China at night, adding that temperatures over the coastal areas of Guangdong would fall progressively from the latter part of this week to early next week under its influence.
“It will be rather cool in the morning and at night. It will be cold over the inland areas,” the Hong Kong Observatory said on Wednesday.
“The northeast monsoon is expected to moderate progressively by midweek next week; the weather over southern China will become fine and dry and daytime temperatures will rise.”
In a social media post published on Tuesday, the forecaster said it was possible the coming cold weather could break the record for the lowest temperature recorded this winter.
“The temperature in the New Territories is expected to drop another two to three degrees and reach the cold level, which is 12 degrees or below,” it said. “Remember to keep an eye on the weather and stay warm.”
