Chung, 29, earned the accolade for her performance as a deaf girl in The Way We Talk, beating four other nominees including veteran Hong Kong actresses Sandra Ng Kwan-yue and Patra Au Ga-man.

During her acceptance speech, Chung described herself as “a film lover” and thanked Hong Kong’s deaf community using sign language.

It was Chung’s second nomination in a row for best actress at the Golden Horse Awards.

Hong Kong directing duo Chan Cheuk-sze and Kathy Wong Kei-yiu won the award for best documentary short film with their politically minded Colour Ideology Sampling.mov.
