Operation Santa Claus: groups for ethnic minority elderly, special needs children to benefit
This year’s campaign, themed ‘Everyday Heroes’, will target vulnerable groups such as those with disabilities and rare diseases
The fundraiser, jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK, raised HK$14.9 million (US$1.9 million) for 16 charitable organisations in its previous instalment.
This year’s campaign, themed “Everyday Heroes”, was launched on Tuesday and will benefit charities supporting a range of projects that help individuals with disabilities, mental health needs and patients living with rare diseases.
Christine Wai Yee-yan, acting director of broadcasting, said RTHK and the Post would be working together to tell the stories about the NGOs whose work had earned their support.
“We’ll be keeping the public informed about … those real everyday heroes and how they make such a big difference to the lives of those in need,” Wai said at the 2024 launch ceremony at ArtisTree in Quarry Bay.
Paul Wong, general counsel and company secretary of the Post, also hailed everyday heroes who were making the city a better place to live.
“They have met the challenges in their work bravely to achieve the work that they have done which then contributed to our lives,” Wong said.
Notable guests officiating at the launch ceremony included OSC 2024 ambassador and singer Jay Fung, Hong Kong’s first wheelchair badminton player Daniel Chan, and representatives of donors and beneficiaries.
