Hong Kong man, 82, falls to death while cleaning air-conditioner rack outside window
Man had told his wife he would clean rack before she left home to buy groceries, source says
An 82-year-old Hong Kong man was suspected to have fallen to his death while cleaning the air-conditioner rack mounted outside his window on Tuesday.
Police received a report from security personnel at New Kwai Fong Gardens Block C in Kwai Chung around 9am that a man had been found lying on a platform outside the garbage room of the building.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after police and ambulance personnel arrived within six minutes. An initial investigation suggested he fell from the 18th floor while cleaning, according to a source, who added that no suicide note or suspicious injuries were found.
The cause of death will be determined after a postmortem examination.
The source said the living room window and grille were found open, with a chair positioned nearby. The air-conditioning unit extended from the wall outside the window, and the garbage room, where the body was discovered, was located directly beneath the rack.
The insider noted that the man had been living in the flat with his wife for 40 years.
His wife was out grocery shopping when the fatal fall occurred and returned home half an hour later. Before she left, her husband had said he would clean the bottom part of the air conditioner rack.
