Hong Kong is diving into a wave of activities to celebrate Halloween on Thursday, as revellers head to bars and pubs in the nightlife districts of Lan Kwai Fong and Tsim Sha Tsui as well as theme parks and even residential neighbourhoods.

Those with a flair for dressing up have hit the streets in the evening with quirky and sometimes scary outfits, and more than a little macabre make-up.

Restaurants, bars and pubs will be hoping to do a roaring trade amid weak consumption and a growing trend of people crossing the border to spend.

The celebrations may also be seen as a barometer for the recovery in post-Covid nightlife, as the government encourages people to go out to spend and dine at night.
