A wild boar has been killed and another injured after a Hong Kong taxi driver ran over a family of hogs in Aberdeen.
Police received a report about the traffic accident at 7.28pm on Saturday outside the Aberdeen Baptist Church in Southern district.
The taxi driver, a 71-year-old man surnamed Cheung, told police he had made the report after crashing into the pack of wild boars.
The force said that one wild boar was killed and another had been injured, with no one arrested at the time.
Officers have contacted staff from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to handle the carcass.
Dashcam footage circulating online showed two adult boars and three piglets walking against the direction of traffic on Aberdeen Reservoir Road.
A taxi then drove towards the family of wild boars without reducing its speed.
In the footage, a passer-by could be heard shouting “Hey, don’t do it!” as the vehicle approaches the animals, followed by a loud crash and squeals from the boars before the cab rolled to a stop.
Animal rights social media page Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group quoted a witness named Mike as saying he had shouted to alert the oncoming taxi, but the driver accelerated while going uphill.
The witness said the boar killed in the crash was a piglet, adding that the other two piglets appeared to be injured and could only drag themselves forward using their front legs.

He said the pack had left the scene, with the condition of their injuries unknown.
Under the law, drivers must stop their vehicles promptly in the event of an accident involving animals such as cats, dogs, horses, cattle, mules, sheep, pigs and goats.
Drivers are expected to provide their details to police for investigation and further action. The force will initiate legal proceedings against individuals if enough evidence is available.
A driver who fails to stop after such an accident faces a fine of HK$10,000 (US$1,285) and up to 12 months in prison.
Motorists who fail to provide details and file a police report within 24 hours of an accident face a fine of HK$25,000 and a six-month prison sentence.
Last month, a taxi hit and killed a wild boar in Aberdeen. Another two boars earlier died after being hit by a motorcycle and a bus while crossing the Tolo Highway in Tai Po.
The city’s wild boar population stood at 1,360 in 2023, down by 26 per cent from around 1,830 in 2022, since the government ramped up culling.
According to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, it “humanely dispatched” 1,294 wild pigs between November 2021 and September 26, 2024.
The department began euthanising them in late 2021 after a spike in the number of boars attacking humans and entering urban areas.
The policy replaced the government’s previous tactic of capturing, sterilising and relocating the animals.
