Some customers of a Hong Kong fitness and yoga chain accused of failing to pay millions of dollars in rent for a city centre branch have expressed concern about their membership.

The disclosure earlier this week of civil action by landlord CP(SH) Limited against three companies associated with Pure Fitness has stoked concern among gym members.

The plaintiff alleges that its tenant, Pure Fitness (Admiralty), has breached its lease agreement by not paying rent from April to August for its branch in ICBC Tower and part of Champion Tower in Central.

It has demanded about HK$13.59 million (US$1.74 million) for five months’ rent, management charges and other miscellaneous fees.

Gym member Eric Wang, a healthcare worker who has been with the chain for eight years, is among those whose confidence in the company has been affected.
