Hong Kong Palace Museum to raise admission prices by 16.7% to HK$70 next month
- Second ticket price increase in around a year to help ‘enhance the sustainability of operations’ of museum in cash-strapped arts hub
The Hong Kong Palace Museum will raise the price of its general admission tickets by nearly 17 per cent to HK$70 (US$9) next month to “enhance the sustainability of its operations”, with industry experts saying the move is unlikely to affect demand.
The museum, part of the city’s cash-strapped West Kowloon Cultural District, on Friday announced its second ticket price increase since opening on July 3, 2022.
“Adjusting fees can help the museum cope with the rising costs, enhance the sustainability of its operations, and to continue presenting more high-quality exhibitions and programmes to the public,” it said.
Adult general admission prices rose by 20 per cent to HK$60 last July for timed entry to the museum, while the concessionary rate increased to HK$30 from HK$25.
The latest 16.7 per cent rise in the price of general admission tickets, from HK$60 to HK$70, will take effect on August 15. Concessionary tickets will also increase from HK$30 to HK$35.
Prices for admission to the current special thematic exhibitions as well as the unlimited annual entry passes will remain unchanged.
