Hong Kong woman, 99, falls to her death from 19th-floor flat while hanging laundry

  • Security staff found woman lying on the ground outside her residential building

A 99-year-old woman has fallen to her death while hanging laundry from a window of her 19th-floor flat in eastern Hong Kong.

Security staff at Ngan Chun House in Tung Chun Court, Shau Kei Wan, called police shortly after finding the woman lying on the ground outside the building after 2pm.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

She was likely to have been doing household chores when she slipped and fell out of the window, a preliminary police investigation found. She was believed to have been hanging laundry at the time.

A police source said the woman lived with her 65-year-old son, who was not home when the incident occurred. The source said the son believed she had been hanging laundry.

Authorities previously released safety promotional material reminding the public to be careful when cleaning windows or hanging laundry.

People should not lean out of their windows or use the frames as support.

A police investigation into the incident is continuing.
