Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki said on Friday authorities were satisfied with the progress of the site, where the construction of major facilities, including a 50,000-seat main stadium, was largely complete.

“There will be trial events [before the formal opening] for us to assess the operation of the sports park,” he said.

Chan added the site was well served by public transport, including two nearby MTR stations.

“Kai Tak and Sung Wong Toi stations are about 10 minutes’ walk away. If people wish, they can also walk to Choi Hung station,” he said.

Taxi and bus services were also available, Chan said, voicing confidence in the transport arrangements for spectators getting to and from the park.
