‘Surrounded by loved ones’: Hong Kong cancer patient who donated HK$800,000 to help young sufferers has died, family says

A 28-year-old investment banker with terminal cancer who donated HK$800,000 (US$102,480) to a Hong Kong foundation set up to help young patients with the disease has died surrounded by his loved ones, his family has revealed.

“Thank you for your love and encouragement for Gabriel [Yeung Ka-piu],” the family said in a post on his personal Instagram account on Thursday.

“Gabriel passed away peacefully in late March, before Easter, surrounded by his loved ones.

“The farewell ceremony has also concluded. Wishing you all peace and happiness.”

The family added they would not respond to messages or media inquiries.

Yeung’s posts on Facebook and Instagram have been flooded with messages of thanks and condolences.
