Two senior executives of a multinational bank, one dressed in a traditional Japanese gown and the other in football attire, led a high-spirited gathering for employees of the firm in Hong Kong, with a charity auction – not business – on the agenda.

The staff from UBS Hong Kong were raising money for Operation Santa Claus (OSC), an annual fundraising initiative held by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK.

Bids came fast and furious from employees dressed in creative costumes, including inflatable footballs to match this year’s World Cup theme.

They were bidding for donations such as a golf experience and a Japanese omakase fine dining treat. The successful bidders had the added bonus of joining up with each of the costumed senior executives, who donated the auction items, as part of the prizes.

Amy Lo, the bank’s chief executive in Hong Kong, will take the lucky winners for a round of golf, while Taichi Takahashi, the firm’s regional investment banking head, will offer up his time for the exclusive dinner.
