Hong Kong weather: city cancels second amber rainstorm warning issued on Friday
- Observatory says wet conditions brought on by broad area of low pressure
- First amber alert issued at 4.08am remained in place for more than five hours, with second one running from 1.05pm to 5.35pm
Hong Kong cancelled a second amber rainstorm warning issued on Friday, while the city’s weather forecaster said another tropical cyclone was expected to reach western Guangdong early next week.
The latest warning came at 1.05pm and was dropped at 5.35pm, with the Observatory saying the city was under a broad area of low pressure.
An amber alert means heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.
The first warning was issued up at 4.08am and cancelled at 9.30am. The Observatory urged residents to beware of possible dangers brought on by the heavy rain. A thunderstorm warning was also in force until 2pm.
The prospect of rain across Guangdong was also likely to decrease in the next few days on the back of a strengthening anticyclone, the forecaster said.
An area of low pressure in the central part of the South China Sea is also expected to turn into a tropical cyclone next week and edge towards western Guangdong and Hainan Island.
The weather on Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a few showers, continuing into Saturday and is likely to be followed by sunny periods during the day.
