An auxiliary police sergeant escaped injury when he accidentally fired his gun in Tuen Mun police station on Saturday afternoon.
Police are investigating whether the part-time officer was unloading his revolver and if he followed proper guidelines. The incident happened at the loading bay of the station in Pui To Road shortly after 2.30pm.

“One shot was fired as the officer accidentally pressed the trigger,” a police source said.
The gun was handed to the forensic firearms examination division to check whether it malfunctioned.
With about 11,000 of the city’s 29,000 police officers protecting President Xi Jinping during his three-day visit, more than 1,000 auxiliary officers were understood to have been deployed to ensure sufficient manpower to patrol and maintain order.


The incident happened about an hour after the Air China flight carrying the president, first lady and his delegation left the city.
Police thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation during a security operation that involved temporary road closures and diversions for traffic and pedestrians.
Since Thursday, police said they had handled 73 public meetings and processions. Most participants expressed their demands in a rational and peaceful manner, but some involved violence, the force said.

Officers handled nine criminal cases and arrested 20 people for offences including common assault, criminal damage and possession of offensive weapons.
“Police will conduct fair and extensive investigations into each violent case regardless of the background of the victim or person involved,” a spokesman said.
