Update | Former TVB boss Stephen Chan found guilty in Hong Kong bribery case, fined HK$84,000
High Court follows latest appeals court ruling that Chan and Edthancy Tseng be convicted
Former TVB general manager Stephen Chan Chi-wan and his personal assistant were convicted today for conspiracy to accept an advantage and fined them HK$84,000 and HK$28,000 respectively.
District Court Judge Poon Siu-tung, presiding in the High Court after previously acquitting Chan, 55, and Edthancy Tseng Pei-kun, 33, found the men guilty and did not impose a jail sentence.
The charge stated that Chan, as host of the talk show Be My Guest, received HK$112,000 for his appearance at a mall through a company run by Tseng without reporting it to the station.

The episode was produced and broadcast by TVB and took place at Olympian City in Tai Kok Tsui on New Year’s Eve 2009.
Today’s conviction and fines – totalling the amount Chan received in the incident in question – closed a high-profile chapter in Chan’s association with TVB, where he became general manager in 2004.
As a talk show host for the station, Chan gained popularity, inviting prominent figures ranging from former chief executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to Olympic gold medallist Lee Lai-shan.
Chan’s lawyer Joseph Tse SC, while seeking mitigation for Chan, said people from all walks of life wrote letters to court to ask for leniency towards his client.
