Vice-president Mr Justice Wally Yeung Chun-kuen said this morning: “The Court of Appeal has already found Chan should be found guilty of the [bribery] charge.”

“I can’t see any reasonable basis to support halting the order,” he said.

Yeung, with Ms Justice Maria Yuen Ka-ning and Mr Justice Derek Pang Wai-cheong, convicted Chan, 55, and his personal assistant Edthancy Tseng Pei-kun, 33, and ordered the two be sentenced on a count of agents conspiring to accept advantages in October this year, after District Court judge Poon Siu-tung twice acquitted the pair.

The charge alleged Chan received a payment of HK$112,000 without informing TVB while hosting his talk show Be My Guest at Olympian City in Tai Kok Tsui on New Year’s Eve 2009.

He received the payment from the mall by way of a company run by Tseng, the court heard.
