Four bundles of HK$1,000 banknotes stuffed in a white plastic bag were found in a black rucksack hidden in bushes on a remote hillside in Shenzhen, according to a report on the account of the city's Public Security Bureau.

Inside the rucksack, police also found 10 items of jewellery believed to have been stolen from Law's Clear Water Bay residence last month. They included necklaces, bracelets and rings.

A report on the microblog said detectives from Shenzhen discovered the location of the money from one of the alleged abductors - Xiong Denghui - on May 15.

Xiong was among nine mainland men arrested by Hong Kong and Guangdong police between May 3 and 9 in connection with the kidnapping. Mainland officers recovered about one-tenth of the HK$28 million ransom payment during the operation.

According to the report, Xiong and another suspect surnamed Wang, carrying the rucksack with the cash and valuables, crossed the border into Shenzhen from Sha Tau Kok through an illegal channel on May 4.

"After returning to Shenzhen, Wang hid the rucksack in the secluded wood in the Luohu district of Shenzhen," it said.
