Suspect, victim in fatal Hong Kong stabbing argued over ‘romantic affairs’
Police say 56-year-old suspect had known victim for a few years
Hong Kong police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing in Tuen Mun believed to have stemmed from conflict over romantic affairs.
Assistant District Commander Wong Wai-chi said on Saturday that the suspect, 56, who was arrested in Ngau Tau Kok the previous night, had known the male victim, 33, for a few years.
“The suspect and the victim had conflicts over romantic affairs and police believe they had argued before the tragedy took place,” Wong said.
Officers took the suspect back to Po Tin Estate in Tuen Mun for a re-enactment of Thursday’s attack. No triad activities were involved in the case, Wong added.
She said a woman, 44, was arrested on the night of the attack for allegedly misleading police officers during their investigation. The man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder.
Both suspects have been detained for further inquiries.
The victim was found unconscious on the ground at the public housing estate on Thursday night, and was pronounced dead at 11.55pm after being taken to Tuen Mun Hospital.
