Hong Kong police arrest 4 men on suspicion of murder over ‘eye contact’
Preliminary investigations suggest suspects did not know victim and triad activities not involved, police say
Hong Kong police have arrested four men on suspicion of murdering a 35-year-old man in Tuen Mun after the group allegedly beat him up over “eye contact”.
Wong Wai-chi, a police assistant district commander, said on Sunday that preliminary investigations suggested the suspects did not know the victim and triad activities were not involved.
“The man was buying takeaway, but got into a conflict and later a fight with the suspects over issues with eye contact. No weapons were involved according to our preliminary investigations,” Wong said.
The group allegedly attacked the man at 12.45am on Sunday outside YO Mart in Tuen Mun’s Yau Oi Estate.
Police later received a call from the man’s father, who reported his son had collapsed at home at Yau Oi Estate.
The victim was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2.27am.
