Hong Kong worker killed by falling cage lift at residential project construction site
Preliminary investigations show machine malfunction caused cage to fall and hit man at Pavilia Farm III development
A Hong Kong worker has died after being hit by a falling cage lift suspected to have been caused by a machine malfunction at a residential project construction site.
Police said on Saturday the 41-year-old man lost consciousness after he was crushed by the cage lift while trying to move items at the site of Pavilia Farm III at 1.30pm.
Part of his body was crushed by the iron frame of the cage when it fell on him, leaving him unconscious.
Police said preliminary investigations showed the cage lift suddenly malfunctioned before it fell, trapping the man on the ground as he was transporting materials.
Rescuers who arrived at the scene rushed the worker to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for emergency treatment, but he was pronounced dead at 2.25pm.
Police investigating the cause of the incident have classified the case as an industrial accident.
The man was reportedly married with children, aged six and 13, in mainland China.
