Hong Kong police are hunting for three suspects who smashed the glass wall of a jewellery store in Sheung Shui and stole items worth about HK$2 million (US$257,160).
Police said a security guard at the Landmark North shopping centre in Sheung Shui heard a loud bang at 6.47am on Sunday. When he went to investigate the noise, he found three men inside the shop.
He tried to stop them but the suspects fled the building and escaped in a vehicle.
Police said 116 pieces of jewellery including rings, necklaces and bracelets had been stolen and were worth more than HK$2 million. The amount was double the HK$1 million police first reported earlier in the day.
Footage circulating online showed a large hole had been smashed in a glass wall of the shop called Dazzle.
The case has been handed over to the Tai Po district crime squad.

The burglary followed a string of jewellery store cases earlier this year.
In July, a staff member of a store on Chuen Lung Street in Tsuen Wan arrived at work to find the electric switch box and lock outside the store had been broken by alleged criminals.
Officers also drew their weapons in May as they arrested five alleged smash-and-grab thieves at a watch and jewellery store in the busy Tsim Sha Tsui shopping district.
