Hong Kong police have taken a British man arrested on suspicion of murder back to a country park in Pok Fu Lam where an Indonesian helper was believed to have jumped to her death after the married businessman wanted to break off their affair.

Sources told the Post on Wednesday the investigation into the case, which was still being classified as murder, was ongoing and officers were looking into the circumstances of the death.

Officers escorted the suspect, a 34-year-old British national who holds a Hong Kong identity card, back to Waterfall Bay Park near Wah Fu Estate for about an hour in the afternoon. He was kept in handcuffs and with a chain around his waist.

The revelation over the affair and the alleged cause of death followed the arrest of the man and his wife, a 36-year-old local woman, the day before in connection with the suspected murder of the domestic helper. The woman’s body was discovered at the waterfall.

The Post understands preliminary investigations showed that the man runs a cafe in Central and had an extramarital affair with the helper. Police earlier said the pair knew each other but the man was not the helper’s employer.

The Briton and the Indonesian began their relationship after meeting out on the streets of Central, according to a source.
